- A good deal of poaching for fish is done on the little Forgney river. A boy will get a one cwt weight sack and a long forked stick. He ties the forks of the stick to the mouth of the bag with a cord. This cord runs round through the mouth of the sack. Then he puts a piece of white cloth in the bottom of the bag and makes five knots on the cloth about two inches apart. The cloth attracts the fish and they think the knots a re food.
He lets the bag out in the middle of the river and holds the stick in his hand. The fish swim into the bag over the white cloth. He pulls out the stick and the mouth of the bag will close thus securing the fish. Then he draws out the bag. The kind of fish usually caught are trout, perch and small pike.- Bailitheoir
