  1. The Glen is forsaken and lonely
Not one at the cross roads is seen.
No sound but the murmuring river
Where music and laughter had been.
The haunt of the boys and the girls
The place held so long in renown.
The scene of so much merry making.
The house at the corner is down.
    II
How snugly it stood in the valley.
The cosiest cot in the land,
    Encircled by hills and plantations,
    Midst a landscape exceedingly grand,
Where the hawthorn blossomed so early.
And sign of Spring could be seen.
No spot in old Erin so lovely.
Than where the old cottage had been.
    III
To think of the times that are vanished
When youths were happy and bright.
Assembled beneath its old roof tree
On many a long Winter's night.
It was the song and the story.
And light hearted banter went round.
Alas for the house at the corner
Its equal will never be found
