  1. Once upon a time two boys went into an orchard to steal apples.
On their way home they went into a graveyard to divide their spoil.
As they went in the churchyard gate they dropped two of the apples but did not then bother to puck them up.
They picked out a large flat tombstone and placed all their apples upon it.
The bigger boy them began the dividing by saying "one for you, and one for me", "one for you, and one for me".
While this was going on a small boy happened to pass the churchyard gate, and hearing the talking he stopped and listened for a while.
Then he ran off and meeting a policeman he said in a frightened voice, "God an the devil are in the churchyard dividing out the dead".
The policeman plucked up courage and took the boy back with him to the gate.
Listening very earnestly, he too, heard, "one for you and one for me", "one for you and one for me".
