    Some time ago the people used to burn all rush candles. My father used to see people making them. First they would gather a large bundle of big fat rushes. They are to be found in bog drains. They would peel the rushes in strips until there would be one strip left to keep them together. They would get a griset, a thing something like a sauce boat. They would melt fat on the griset. Next they would dip the rushes into the grease. They would tie the rushes together and hang
