- (ar lean ón leathanach roimhe)creels, and baskets for different purposes. He also makes rush mats from straws and rushes plaited together leaving the colour of the mat a lovely green and gold. He lives in a lock-house on the canal line. Pat Keena of Empor still makes rush candles. They are made from peeled rushes soaked in fat and then put into a wooden trough to dry. He makes a special candlestick in which to burn the candle. We have a bórán at home. It was made by my great grandfather over 100 years ago. It was made from goat skin. The skin was steeped in lime and water. The fur falls off the skin in the water. It is left steeping for a long time. Then it is hung out to dry. It got hard during this process, but it would not crack when bent. Then it is nailed to a round piece of wood leaving it basket shaped. It is used for(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)
