- In 1845 there was a great frost which lasted for seven months. The ice was six feet deep on Lough Owel lake and the people made it a short cut to get to the other side. A man named Mat Maher brought a cart load of hay across the Lake to a person named Kelly.
In 1901 there was another frost but it was not as severe as the one previous. It lasted for four months and the lake was frozen. The ice was four feet deep. A man named Byrne who worked in Gilmors shop was the first to break the(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)
