- There was a hedge-school in Leatherally. A man named Burke owned it and he taught school himself in it. My great grandfather, and all the old people about Rahugh went there for there was no school near. I was told, it was thatched and the roof nearly flat. It was mostly at night a lot of the boys went to the school, all of them big men. On Hallow Eve the boys played a trick on their master. They drove a cow and roof, and the cow and roof fell down on the master at his desk, and that ended the school.
