- Before the Parafin oil or wax candles were found the Irish peopole made their own candles (simply).
First they went to marshy bog where the best rushes grew.
They pulled a bundle of those and brought lthem home and put them on a candle trough near the fire to dry.
After a day or two they would peel those rushes then they would get a Grissit which they had for the purpose and fry some suet on it, they would then dip the rushes in it and put them on the trough again to dry. After a day they are ready for use.Date: 14.10.38- Bailitheoir
