Over a century ago a woman by the name of Mrs Gaughran cut her throat...

Rose Mary McCormack heard this tale in her home. The original teller is not known.

    _____________________
Over a century ago a woman by the name of Mrs Gaughan cut her throat in Thomastown. She lived where Mr Giles has his garden at present.
A priest by the name of Fr Swords was parish priest of Killucan and when the people found the woman with her throat cut at the wall of Thomastown they sent for Fr Swords. People say he heard her confession through her windpipe. Then he cut off the arm by which she cut her throat and threw it to the "Devil" and the Devil ran off with it and the priest said to him that is your share of her.
