Ar an leathanach seo
- People never wore shoes until they were 17 or 18 years old in olden times. Mary Coleman Grangebeg Raharney told me she never wore shoes or boots, but some she used to wear treckeens [?]. Clogs were worn long ago. The uppers were made of leather, and the soles of wood. The soles were tipped with iron and the toecaps were made of tin. People considered it unlucky not to throw out the water used in washing the feet.
It is considered to wash your feet in front of the fire. Children go barefoot in summer and some of them go in all seasons except the winter. There is only one shoemaker in this district now but there were many more in(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)
