- Mother bakes bread every day,
A nice crisp loaf it is.
Its better far than baker's bread,
I'm sure I'm not amiss.She sifts the flour into the pan,
Twist fingers cool and clean.
Adds next the salt and soda,
And sifts them through again.To fetch a bowl of buttermilk,
To the churn she will go,
And mix the whole so smoothly.
Into a nice stiff dough.The oven now is heated,
And dusted around with flour
The dough is crossed with knife
Put in and bake for about an hour.
