- There are two graveyards in the parish of Mayne. They are Mayne graveyard and Faughalstown. Faughalstown is in the townland of Faughalstown and the graveyard of Mayne is int he townland of Mayne.Mayne is a mixed churchyard in which Catholics and Protestants are buried. It is situated about half a mile from Mayne chapel. Faughalstown is a catholic graveyard about a mile from Whitehall chapel. It is situated on a height overlooking Lough Derrevarragh and a beautiful scenery can be seen from it.Long ago a catholic church stood in the centre of the graveyard but only a small part of the ruin can be seen at present. This church was dedicated to St. Dermot and was called Saint Darby's or St. Dermot's. The walls of the church are small and one can see by looking at them that it was a small one. Most of the tombstones are modern and there are no remains buried inside the church. Some of the dates on the tombstones date back for over a hundred years.Most people have a special graveyard(continues on next page)
