  1. Long ago the tinkers were treated very well. They had better means of lodging because they had a house called the "Poor House" in every fairly large town. When morning dawned they were sure to get ready and leave the house and they were sure to be in another town before eight o'clock that night. These people would be taken in and given a good meal. Then they were left beside the fire or in a warm out-house. They were given another meal in the morning and sent away.
