- Many weeds grow in the land around Finea Co Westmeath, namely, dock-weed, dandelion, crow-foot, cow-foot, prassie, nettles, marsh-mallows, wild garlick, sweet meadow, and chicken-weed and thistles.
Dandelion when made into tea is a good drink for consumptives.
Nettles when brewed are a cure for the heart - especially blood pressure as it softens the blood vessels.
Wild garlick is used for cattle diseases. It grows in dry rocky places, with bunches of small bulbs about the size of vetches at the roots. It is supposed to cure 'Black leg' in cattle.
Dandelion is a splendid food for fowl and pigs. Nettles are given to young ducks to feather them.
The dock leaf is a great cure for stings by extracting the juice from it and applying it to the parts affected.
Mint-hour-hound & Thyme are sometimes used in Cookery.
Garlic is the best known herb of all. It is grown in most garden and forms the principal(continues on next page)
