The family name most common in this parish is Smyth. There are six families of Smyths in it. Most of the houses are slated but there are a few thatched houses. There were less houses here in former times. Some of them are now in ruins.
Some land belonging to Mr Gradwell was divided this year in Dowth, Knowth and Crewbawn. It was divided into farms each containing twenty-five acres. There is a house and a large shed built with each farm. The houses are slated. These farms are given to the sons of farmers in the district. There are several old people in this parish. They do not know Irish. They can tell stories in English. Some people emigrated from this parish in former years. There is good grazing land in this parish. The river Boyne flows through it. The river Mattock flows, is also in this parish. It divides County Meath from County Louth.
