  1. There is a strange cure for sore throat in this district. There is a plant called 'cowfoot'. The leaf is shaped like a cow's foot. The leaves are taken from the stem and boiled in water. When they are boiled they are strained and the water is given to the person.
    The stem of the dandelion is a cure for warts. The stem of the dandelion is broken and the white substance which is inside is put on the wart. This is repeated until the wart has disappeared.

  2. Cure for scabs or sores on the face - Unsalted butter and sulphur mixed in equal quantities and applied regularly.
    Leaves of the dandelion or of the black-currant bush boiled in new milk and the liquid drunk is supposed to be a remedy for kidney trouble.
