- In the time of the famine great number of people died with the hunger. There came a blight on the potatoes because no one knew anything about spraying.
they had nothing to eat but cabbage, and indian meal porridge. Some people used to bring out salt, and put it on shamrocks, and eat them. There was a great sickness after the famine. It was called the Black favour. Some people died along ditches and others in their houses. People point out sites of houses that were burned during the famine.
