    There is a gate on our road which is called, "The Stirabout Gate". During the time of the Penal laws in Ireland, the people would be in a hurry to eat their porriage in the mornings and they used to come to this gate to finish it there. There is a stile beside the gate and they used to sit on it and eat their meal. This gate is situated about three quarters of a mile from Kilskyre and this is how it got its name.
