    (The Earl of Mayo lived in Haystown House)
    There were some notorious ruffins in olden times and one of them was the son of the late Henry Burke, the Earl of Mayo. The son was very notorious for evil but within some time he died. Some time after the death of the Earl's son the priest was preaching in the Yellow Furze (Beauparc) church. He said that at that very moment the son of Henry Burke was burning in the flames of Hell.
    It soon came to the Earl's ears what the priest said and the latter was immediately sent for. When the priest came the Earl asked him to prove what he said. The priest said he would and then he took out a prayer book and read prayers. He then let three loud whistle each after the other. After the third whistle the spirit of the Earls son appeared in their midst.
    The priest asked the spirit where he was when he let the first whistle. The spirit replied, "In chains in Hell." "The second time I whistled where
