- Long ago there was a place in Derryconnor near Glack boreen and it was called Tinkers Lane.
There were fourteen houses in it and fourteen different familes and each of the familes had a different trade.
There were tinkers and basket makers and besom makers. Thomas Welton was a hatter. Michael Sefton was a nailer. Thomas Kennedy was a besom maker.
Burke's have a forge in Ballivor now and long ago the old Burkes had a forge in Cloneycavan. Old Tom Burke was a Slane maker as well. Pat Bray had a forge where Dixon's live now in Ballivor.
Dixons in Killyon were blacksmiths and are still.
The forge water cures warts.
Johnie Murray in Ballivor was the last shoemaker. He died in 1933.
