- (ar lean ón leathanach roimhe)girls commenced to return. They reached a hill which often was said to be the home of fairies. They sat on the grassy top of the hill to rest for a while as the day was very sultry. Soon a host of gaily but quaintly-dressed men appeared from a hole in the hill top and opening some deep pockets in the sides of their green knicker-bockers, they took out golden coins from them. They counted and counted them again and again. One of these tiny men asked one of the girls if she had as much money in the can as they had. They wondered and opened the can and found it full of gold. They closed the can over joyed and they started for home. One of the men asked them to look into the can again. They did so and found it full of peels of potatoes. They returned to their homes wearied and disappointed at their hard luck.
To this day Mrs. Peter Reilly tells this story about her own and her dead sister's encounter with the fairies that day so may years ago when but happy thoughts filled her mind.- Bailitheoir
