- In the Penal Times when Ireland was bleeding under the sword of Cromwell; and when it was death for a priest to say mass, or to perform any of his priestly duties, a Vicar General named Michael Plunkett lived in Ratoath.
A Protestant named Fitzpatrick then, lived in the manor-house and he sheltered Rev Plunkett.
He gave him food and clothing, a room and John Ramsay as a servant.
He used to help Rev Michael Plunkett out at night by a ladder leading from the ground to his window.
Dr. Plunkett when coming in at night would ascend the ladder, raise up the window, enter the room and here the old vicar was secure from his enemies, here he had refreshment and rest.
