Ar an leathanach seo

  1. Whit Monday was a very unlucky day on which to be born - either man or beast.
    A blow from that person or animal was supposed to have disastrous results. It would never heal.
    To counteract the evil effects a green sod was cut and held over a child born on that day.
    This person or animal was called a CINGCISÍN, probably from the Irish word CINGCÍS meaning Pentecost.

    Xmas Day and Easter Sunday were considered very lucky birth days.

    When cows were put out on pastures a crucifix was stuck in the bushes or a medal was dropped on the land as a protection against disease and witchcraft.
