    On May Day the children prepare a May bush. They get a good sized branch and dress it up with tissue paper and ribbon streamers. Then they carry it in procession and accost the passerby with "Give us something for the May bush."
    They spend the pennies they get sweets
    Ladies who washed their faces on May morning with dew before sunrise were assured of a good complexion for the remainder of the year.
    Meadow sweet steeped in buttermilk was supposed to remove freckles.
    Cure for warts
    Get 9 small potatoes. Make the sign of the cross on 8 of them & throw the 9th away. Rub the warts with the 8 and then bury them in a wet place.
    When the potatoes rot the warts will disappear.
