- 28.6.38The pig was kept in the corner. The bed was called the "doss." The floors were made of clay and boards. Half-doors are not common. Rush-lights were used. There was a long pot for the purpose and the "tallow" was melted in this. The "tallow" was very thick oil. Then the rush was skinned and the inside taken out and dipped in the oil and left to harden. There was a lamp for the rush-candles, and when one bit of the candle burnt out the people shoved another bit up.
