- There is only one forge in this district namely Muldoons. It is said that the Muldoons were black-smiths for generations. The forge is situated besides the chapel of Rosnaree at the crossroads of the same name.
The roof of the forge is made of black canvas, and slants like a slate roof. The forge door is square and it is divided in halves so that it is easily opened and closed. The fire-place is like a huge square block taken out of the wall.
The bellows is built into the wall at the side of the fire and it is pumped down into the fire. The local black-smiths do not make farm implements but they repair them. They also shoe horses and asses and do other jobs for the locals.
An excellent cure for chilblains is got, by rubbing a drop of forge water on the ailment. When people see sparks coming from the forge fire they say it is an army of soldiers. At night people tell stories or play cards in the forge.
