  1. One time Fionn Mac Cumhaill went to a feis which was said to be held at Tara every three years. Nobody was allowed to attend this feis except Princes and nobles. Fionn went into the palace and took his place among the rest.
    Nobody knew him so the king asked him what was his name. Fionn answered "I am Fionn son of Mac Cumhaill and I have come to offer you my service." The king replied "Your father was a great friend to those whom I trusted so I accept" After the feast was over Fionn agreed to keep guard over the palace until day-break because an old man named Aillen had tried to burn Tara for nine years in succession. After having lulled the people to sleep by fairy music Fionn left the palace. Next morning Fionn brought the head of Aillen to the king and said "Behold the head of the man who tried to burn Tara" All the people were delighted to hear the news and Fionn was made
