  1. There are interesting epitaphs in some old graveyards. There is one in [?] near Clogherhead worded:-
Beneath this stone here lieth one,
Whom all his friends did please,
I hope to Heaven his soul is gone.
    To find eternal ease.
    He drank He sang,
    While here on earth.
    As happy as a lord
So now he has resigned his breath
God rest him - Paddy Ward
    Died September 12th 1783.
A priest at a later date thought it very unsuitable to have such an epitaph on a tombstone and got it taken off, but other authorities said he had not right to do so & made him get it done in the same manner again & it remains there still.
Near Drumconrath, Co Meath, Admiral Singleton gave some land for a new burial ground but he died himself before it was marked out & was the first to be buried there.
