- In the Penal days long ago there was a lane which is called to this day the Gallows Lane. It is called the Gallows Lane because the English soldiers used to hang the Irish rebels there. The trees which were on each side were used as gallows. The trees are all cut down and only two of them remain but the lane is still called the Gallows Lane.
