    In the olden times the people of our own town did not know how to make ropes by machinery as nowadays, for they had no machines for that purpose. They made them in their own homes.
    When doing so, all they needed was a frame made of wood with two laths crossing each other and from each corner came two pieces, all meeting in the centre. In the centre was a large iron wheel hooked on to the wood which were loosened when in use.
    The ropes were made from waste which was made and twisted into strips about forty or fifty yards in length. It was then put into this wheel
