On Hallow Eve also Colcannon is made by peeling potatoes, boiling then, and champing them up with onions or other vegetable and milk, This is dished up and a hole or "well" is made in the middle and filled with butter. People sit round and each takes a spoonful which he or she dips in the well of butter.
This is a very palatable dish.
On Hallow Eve various tricks are played, such as taking off gates and carrying them some distance, or taking a cart off the wheels.
It is said, if a girl goes in the dead of night and pulls a cabbage stalk she will know the kind of her future husband.
Also 3 saucers are got one containing clay, one empty and one a ring.
    A maiden blindfolded chooses one.
If the one with clay she will die.
If the ring she will be married.
If the empty one she will be an old maid.
