    "Ah!" said Emerson "I am very sorry is the poor women dead"?
    "She is not" said Ned "But I want to have it ready, as she can't last much longer."

  2. On another occasion Ned was going home from the town with a new spade under his arm.
    On his way he passed a gate at which he saw a man standing.
    "Goodnight" said Ned, but got no answer.
    "Goodnight" said he again. But still got no answer.
    "Wll take that" said Ned making a blow at him with the spade to find it was not a man but a big, white stone, which broke the spade in bits.
