  1. A man named Michael Boylan of Blakestown Ardee was in the United Irishmen. They were holding a secret meeting at Mellifont. His mother would not let him go.
    Eventually he got out of the room in which she locked him and went.
    At the meeting a surprise party of militia arrested them all.
    This Boylan was engaged to a relative of Speaker Foster so he thought he would be let off.
    All got free except Boylan his life was sworn away by one "Kelly".
    He was hanged at the Tholsel, Drogheda.
