   So up with the kettle and down with the pan.
   And give us some money to bury the wren.

   Then they were given money or food.
   When they had all they could collected they went into a public house and spent the money on drink. They then told stories and sang songs till they were put out.
   The wren boys are not very good now as they are only school boys and not very many of them.
   They do not dress up very well either. They only sing a few songs and do not dance. They will only take money.
   Then do no carry a wren and they have not very good musical instruments.
   Any money they get they divide it among themselves and spend it any way they like
   The wren boys carry a wren because it is supposed that when St. Stephen was hiding from some soldiers who were looking for him the wren began to flutter around the place where he was and the soldiers found him.
