- There are four tailors in this district. These work only at home. All these men keep patterns, but only one stocks cloth. The Summer season is the busiest with them.
The people of this district usually buy their cloth in the shop. and send it to the tailor to get it made. Very few people nowadays buy ready-made suits. Tweeds and serges are the types of cloth worn by the local people.
The gear used by a tailor consists of a sewing machine, a scissors, a thimble, a smoothing iron and pressing board, needles and thread, a rule and chalk.
In very few homes shirts are made nowadays. Flannelette is the cloth usually used for making them. Socks and stockings are knitted at home nowadays. The thread isn't spun at home, and as far as I know there are no spinning wheels in the district.- Bailitheoir
