    It derived its name from the fact that there is a mound in it. It is said that this mound was built by the Danes as a fortification.

    There are seven old people in my district. John Duffy, Mrs McGinn, Thomas Cosgrove, James Walker, Patrick Maguire, Edward Maguire, Miss Julia Lennon and John Callan, the latter of whom is a great story-teller; it is from him I got most of my information.
