1. The Bard's Cow

   

   Roinn Roinn Postáil

   On hearing of the death of the Bard Mac Eraney's only cow a local "poet" John Pepper Stonetown penned the following lines, sometime about 1915.

   Ye wise & ye witty, give ear to my ditty
   I know yeg pity my case - for tis hard
   I "onced" was respected but now 'am rejected
   Lord knows I dunno what has happened the Bard.

   My troubles were many but now worst of any
   The last of my stock, my joy & my pride
   Took suddenly ill at the foot of yon hill
   I think I see still the place where she died

   I done my endeavour, I tried for to save her,
   I went for my neighbour, but all was in vain,
   I knew by her shiver that death it did quiver
   And soon would deliver my best of her pain.

   She was one of the best the Eirnin possesed
   I'm sure she was valued for nearly a crown.
   As I had no desire for to see her expire
   I ups, and retired far away to this town.
