    The Emigrant's Farewell.
    The following poem was composed by Wm. Hynes,
    Pioneer Cottage, Dromiskin. Hynes who is still living
    is an ex-Boer War veteran. The fact that his
    son Finbar and his daughter Eileen found it
    necessary to depart to the U.S.A. is supposed to
    have inspired him in his efforts to portray the feelings
    of this Dromiskin emigrant on embarking.
    "Eight Bells" rang out, on the bridge of
    the Baltic.
    As the ship, Bears away; from the
    famed Cove of Cork.
    The white sprays dash high, from the
    bows of the Liner
    As she cleaves through the waves, for
    the Port of New York.
    Amid the vast throng, on the deck
    of the Baltic
    A fair Irish boy, is standing alone.
    His sad wistful gaze, on the
