- (ar lean ón leathanach roimhe)the well and the latter is decorated with many flowers and suitable shrubs. It is well cared for by the parishoners who seem pleased that the old devotion of their forefathers has been renewed in their midst.
Although a beautiful spring, the water is not used for cookery purposes. It is said that on one occasion water was taken from the spring and it would not boil, no matter what heat was applied. The old people hold that it is not lucky to take water out of this well for domestic use as it is blessed water and deserving of great respect.
Many great favours have been granted and cures obtained by making the pilgrimage on the 15th August each year. The Cooley people are proud of this spot and of the old graveyard some distance away which bears the significant name of Kilwirra Mary's Church.- Bailitheoir
