The corpse was placed in the coffin by some friends & 4 men of the 'same' name used to bring the coffin out to the cart. Earlier in the day a few men were dispatched to the graveyard to "open" the grave for the dead person. These men invariably brought a pint of whiskey with them so it often happened that the men so enjoyed were drunk when it came to the time of filling in the grave.
