  1. Long ago when the people died, there used be great crying and lamenting for a while after the death. When the shock of the death was over, some friends prepared the corpse. If a man died, some handy man was called in to shave him. The women looked after the rest of the preparations. Bed-clothes were arranged. A "habit" was put on the corpse. Rosary beads and a crucifix were placed in the hands of the dead person. Blessed candles were lit in the rooms.
    A few hours after the death women friends came along to the corpse-house. When they entered they went to the bed side of the corpse, knelt down and and a few prayers for the repose of his or her soul. All day long women could be
