“About half a mile from Lahinch there is an old ruin.”
About half a mile from Lahinch there is an old ruin. It belongs to the Lehane family. It was on 22nd September 1920 when the Black and Tans were burning Ennistymon that Lehanes' house was burnt.
There was an ambush in Rineen at the time. The Black and Tans were searching the soldiers' coats in Drummin Hill which was beyond Rineen school, and they found an insurance card in a boy's pocket. The name and address was Connole, Ennistymon, Co. Clare.
The soldiers went into the town of Ennistymon, and they started burning the town. They caught Connole, and they threw him into the middle of a blazing fire and burned him (R.I.P.) They also shot a man called Linnane, Ennistymon, Co. Clare.
That was nothing until they come out to the village of Lahinch and followed on burning. There was a poor man living in a house by himself and they shot him (R.I.P) His name was Pake Lehane, Cregg, Lahinch, Co. Clare.(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)
