  1. An droch-shaoghal
It is said that two of the strongest men in the quarter lived one in Leana and the other in Dromoher. They were trenching a two-acre field. The stronger of the two was very poor and as Indian meal was supplied free in Corofin this man went to apply for some. There were too many applications so he got none. His name was “an coinín mór”, he was so big. He managed to walk home a part of the way, but when he came to the place where John Hawes Kilnaboy now lives, he fell dead. The doctor was sent for, and he held an inquest and all that was got in his stomach was a little herb called “Rubal Chait”.

  2. In the year 1846 and '47 there was a great famine. In the parish of Kilnaboy the men were working for the board of work and all they got in the evening was a pound of meal and they had to walk three miles for it. After the digging of the potatoes in the harvest the people dug the stubbles to find potatoes left. In the Court house in Corofin there was a big boiler for boiling gruel and the people got disgusted with it and broke it.
