    In ancient times the people ate but three meals ,breakfast ,dinner and supper.The breakfast consisted of oat-meal porridge and thick milk.The dinner consisted of potatoes and sour milk.The first settlers in Lisroe were called Cassidys and they were so poor that they used to eat their dinner of boiled cabbage with plenty of salt.The supper in Spring time consisted of oat meal porridge but in the other months when potatoes were plentiful they were used.It was usual for the people ninety years ago to go out into the field bring in some oats thresh it and then grind it with the quern and wait for this to be made into porridge or bread for breakfast .The table stood in the middle of the floor .Sometimes in houses where there were round tables they used to be hanging on the sides of the walls.
    The people used to eat oat meal bread and fine meal bread made from crushed oats .These were baked in a timber article called a"Crompán" before
