  1. Riddles were very popular especially among the country folk of Ireland long ago. They tell those riddles or conundrums when sitting round the fired in the evenings and provided much sport for the younger people. This custom is still kept up and here are some of them.

    A The other half.

    Q If it takes twenty minutes to wash a child what will it take to dry her?
    A A towel
    Q Who is he that never washed his face?
    A The clock.
