In Newhall Churchyard there is a flat stone outside the ruins, and every coffin must be laid down on this stone before being brought to its grave. The walls of the graveyard are very firm, and there are two stone holy water fonts inside in the old ruin.

  2. There are not many ancient ruins in the District, but the two that are standing are the Castle of Clare and Clare Abbey. The Castle of Clare was founded by O'Brien King of Thomond. One of the towers of the Castle now standing near the High Bridge is all that remains of the powerful fortress erected by O'Brien
