    Our Irish chief is dead and gone I am sorry for to tell.
    I regret to say he is in the clay our leader brave Parnell,
    For sixteen years without dread or fear he fought for Erins shore,
    Ireland's chief and gallant friend brave Parnell is no more.

    He died the 16th day of October the year of '91.
    And throughout the world for far and near the sorrowful news went on.
