- There are forts in most of every locality. The only of any importance that I have heard of are the three forts which are in the townland of Slievedooly. One of these forts is in John O Neill's farm, the other in John Markham's garden and the third one is in Pat Clancy's place. Two of these forts are surrounded by an earthen mound and the other one is surrounded by bushes. These three forts are in an opposite direction. It is said that there is an underground passage leading from one fort to the other. It was the Danes that made these forts to protect themselves when they sought to conquer Ireland and take it for themselves. There is one supposition of the origin of the Irish fairies which traces them back to the Tuatha De Danann who were conquered in Ireland. These De Danann were supposed to have hidden themselves in "Duns" which are better known by the name of forts and emerging from these "Duns" in the gloom of the evening gave rise to the magical wonder-working little people who lived in Dúns which are now called forts. These people are now known as fairies.
