The Hennessys and Hehirs were two great factions who engaged in many a fight. One of the Hennessys was called "The Bully Hennessy". They lived in Lissycasey. The Hehirs who were always their opponents were natives of Shyan. Once, at the Tullycrine Races, they fought a great battle. Many of them were wounded both Hennessys and Hehirs but there were no law proceedings as it was not the etiquette of the thing to call in any outsiders to interfere. The "Bully Hennessy" went to America and soon the gang broke up. Tom Hehir is still in Shyan.

One day there was a horse-fair in Spancihill and Spellissy and four other comrades of his challenged Martin Reidy to fight them. The Reidy man was very strong and he was engaged in a few faction fights before that. He took off his coat and vest Then he got a black-thorn stick and started beating Spellissy and his comrades single-handed. The Spellissy were having the victory at first, but after a few neighbours joined Reidy he was victorious. The result of that faction fight was fatal for Spellissy.
