- The local fairs held here, are in Tipperary and Cappawhite. They are held in the streets. In Tipperary the fair is always a big one. Cappawhite fairs are not as big as they used are not as big as they used to be. The cattle are mostly mountain cattle.
When a deal is made, the buyer strikes the seller's hand, to show that he has bought it. When the seller gets the money he spits on it, so that he will have luck. The buyer always wants a luck penny, which is sometimes two shillings or half - a - crown.
If ever there is a halter on the animal, it goes to the purchaser, except if it is an extra good one. Fairs in the early Spring are the best in the year. Fairs long ago were better and bigger than now.
